2 Feared Dead Under Mine Rubble in Arctic

Rescue workers dug through rubble from an underground explosion Thursday at an Arctic mining complex in search of two workers they feared were killed in the blast, an emergency official said. At least four were injured.

The explosion at the massive Norilsk Nikel complex occurred at a depth of about 200 meters, said Viktor Beltsov, a spokesman for the Emergency Situations Ministry. He said the blast was caused by an "explosive device" being used by mine workers.

The explosives went off prematurely, Interfax reported.
