Russian Cargo Ship Launched to International Space Station

KOROLYOV, Russia - A Russian Progress M-44 cargo ship carrying equipment, food and fuel for the International Space Station was launched Monday from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in the Central Asian nation of Kazakstan.

The blast-off took place at 11:18 Moscow time and the cargo shiop entered orbit minutes later, said space officials monitoring the launch from Russia's Mission Control in Korolyov, outside Moscow. The cargo ship is scheduled to dock with the ISS Wednesday.

The Progress is carrying equipment to outfit the Zvezda control module of the station, as well as supplies including water and additional air supplies, Interfax reported.
