Spartak Moscow Signs Top Uzbekistan Striker

Russian champions Spartak Moscow have signed Uzbekistan international striker Jafar Irismetov on a four-year contract.

"We already put Irismetov on the roster as one of our three additions for the Champions League," Spartak technical director Alexander Shikunov said Wednesday.

Irismetov, 24, scored 45 league goals last season to lead Dustlik Tashkent to the Uzbek national title.

Last month, Spartak signed two Ukraine internationals -- goalkeeper Maxim Levitsky from French first division side St Etienne and midfielder Eduard Tsykhmeistruk from Bulgarian champions Levski Sofia.

However, Shikunov said that neither Levitsky nor Tsykhmeistruk will play in the Champions League this season.

Spartak face German champions Bayern Munich in the first Champions League fixture after the winter break on Feb. 13.
