Record-Bound Swim

Georgian swimmer Genri Kuprashvili has set a new world record by covering a distance of 2 kilometers in a Tblisi swimming pool in a time of 32 minutes, 38 seconds — with both his arms and legs tied up, Segodnya newspaper reported Tuesday.

The 54-year-old, who in his day job is the head of the information-analytical service of the Georgian National Security Council, had intended to swim only 1 kilometer Sunday, but kept on swimming to double that distance.

Kuprashvili next plans to swim the Dardanelles — the strait that links the Aegean Sea with the Sea of Marmara — in the same fashion in August.
