Bringing In the New Millennium

A Photo Essay

Tens of thousands of Muscovites converged on Red Square to usher in the New Year with a celebration that kicked off minutes before midnight with President Vladimir Putin wishing the nation all the best in the new millennium from television screens lining the square.

As the clock on the Spasskaya Tower struck 12, revelers popped corks off bottles of champagne and the skies lit up to flashing green lasers and the glow of bursting fireworks.
