Itar-Tass said Borodin had been detained at New York's Kennedy airport and would by questioned by a New York court later in the day. Interfax said he had been invited to the United States to attend the inauguration on Saturday of President-elect George W. Bush.
Borodin, former top aide to ex-president Boris Yeltsin, has said he is innocent. A Swiss investigating magistrate last year indicted five people and issued the warrant against Borodin in a probe into alleged bribe-taking by government officials from Swiss-based construction companies Mabetex and Mercata.
The Russian chief prosecutor's office announced in December that it had dropped its investigation concerning contracts to renovate the Kremlin because there was no case to answer.
Russian officials said they had no information on the arrest.
