'Spy' Was Not Alone

The Federal Security Service detained another American citizen along with Edmond Pope in Moscow in April, but released him due to his senior age and willingness to testify, the semi-official Golos Rossii radio reported Friday.

Pope, who remains in Lefortovo Prison, has been accused of spying.

The radio said the FSB seized documents when arresting Pope, 54, and Daniel Howard Kielly, 68, assistant director of Penn State University’s Applied Research Laboratory, that prove both men were involved in espionage.

Reached by telephone Friday, a secretary at the U.S. laboratory, where Pope also worked, confirmed that they have an assistant director Daniel Kielly. Kielly was not immediately available for comment.
