Satellite Launched

  • A Russian Proton rocket blasted off Tuesday with an American satellite designed to broadcast radio direct to cars or homes anywhere in the United States.

The New York-based Sirius Satellite Radio network, scheduled to be operating by the end of the year, is designed so that radio signals never fade out and a driver can listen to the same station on a coast to coast car trip.

The Sirius satellite launched Tuesday was the second of three that will loop around the world so that as one sets another rises over U.S. territory for 24-hour broadcasting.
