Foreign Investment Up

  • Foreign investment in Russia for the first half of the year was $4.78 billion, a rise of nearly 12 percent from the same period a year ago, according to State Statistics Committee figures.

Foreign investment in Russia plunged markedly after the financial crisis that hit in August 1998, but the economy has recently shown signs of significant recovery.

The largest share of foreign investment in the first half of 2000 was in manufacturing, accounting for $2.27 billion — nearly half the total, the committee said Wednesday.

The largest share by country, about $747 million, came from the United States, followed by Germany, the Netherlands and Cyprus, the report said.
