Drunken Attack

NAZRAN, Ingushetia — Russian soldiers who had been drinking opened fire on a truck and two cars that tried to pass their convoy on a highway in Ingushetia, wounding a driver, officials said Tuesday.

After a witness went to police, the convoy was stopped and an officer acknowledged the incident, said a spokes-man for the Interior Ministry in Ingushetia.

He said 23 Russian soldiers were detained, all of them drunk at the time.

Meanwhile, Interfax reported that rebel forces had killed an Interior Ministry soldier in an attack on a Russian checkpoint in the town of Argun on Monday night.
