Russia to Sell Stakes

Russia plans to sell stakes in gas monopoly Gazprom and oil companies Rosneft and Slavneft late next year, local news agencies quoted a government source as saying Tuesday.

The sales, scheduled for the second half of 2001, include 3.3 percent of Gazprom at a starting price of 6.9 billion rubles ($249 million), the source quoted a 2001 privatization program as saying.

The program is to be submitted to the State Duma along with the 2001 draft budget on Aug. 26.

The program provides for selling 19.68 percent of Russian-Belarussian oil firm Slavneft at a starting price of 3 billion rubles and 25 percent plus one share in Rosneft, which is a blocking stake. The government also plans to sell 51 percent of Samara airlines.
