Red Cross Hostages

TBILISI, Georgia — Authorities said Friday that talks are continuing with a group that abducted three Red Cross staffers, and a mediator said the hostage takers are not seeking money.

Sophie Prokofiev from France and Natasha Zulino from Italy disappeared with their Georgian driver, Yury Darchiev, last weekend on their way to help refugees in a camp near the border with Chechnya.

NTV television reported Friday that a former deputy in Georgia’s parliament who is acting as an intermediary said the kidnappers have not made any political demands and are not seeking money. He said the kidnappers had social demands but did not explain, the report said.

The negotiator, Mamuk Reshidze, said the staffers may be released by Saturday, NTV said.
