Police Watch Kristall

Despite an appeal from a barred director, Moscow police said Tuesday that they will not step into a dispute over the Kristall vodka distillery.

Last Friday, board-appointed director Alexander Romanov entered the factory accompanied by about 15 armed guards and locked himself in the distillery’s offices. He was continuing to occupy the offices Tuesday.

Vladimir Svirsky, the acting director appointed by the Moscow arbitration court last month, appealed to the police Tuesday for assistance in gaining control of the plant.

Police officers have been dispatched to the site, but they said they would only ensure that the dispute does not get out of hand.
