London Club Paid

The government’s foreign debt agent, Vneshekonombank, or VEB, said Thursday it had transferred $274.8 million as the first payment on the country’s restructured debt to the London Club of private lenders.

VEB said in a statement that the funds had been transferred to Chase Manhattan as a 9.5 percent payment on the principal and interest on 2010 Eurobonds.

The Finance Ministry earlier said it had transferred $277.1 million to VEB for the payment. VEB was not available for comment on the discrepancy in figures.
