Kazakh Business

ALMATY, Kazakhstan — Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev renewed an attack on big businesses on Tuesday, urging firms to quit avoiding taxes in a new campaign seen as following Russia’s crackdown on oligarchs.

His comments, broadcast on state Khabar television on Tuesday, were the second such warning from the leader to some of Kazakhstan’s most powerful investors.

Some political analysts have likened his attack on powerful conglomerates to President Vladimir Putin’s crackdown on prominent businessmen accused of using their political clout to amass huge personal fortunes.
