Forest Fires Burn

Forest fires burned in far northern parts of Russia on Tuesday after unusually balmy weather dried out vegetation, the Federal Forest Service said.

Out of 109 forest fires across Russia reported to federal officials Tuesday, 106 were burning in far northern regions, the service said.

In the far northern Murmansk region alone, 44 fires were burning out of control Tuesday, officials said. Fires are unusual in the region of tundra and stunted trees because of frequent summer rains and cool temperatures.
