First Space Tourist?

Russian doctors gave California businessman Dennis Tito a clean bill of health for space travel this week, bringing Tito closer to his goal of becoming a "space tourist," according to the company arranging the journey.

MirCorp, which arranged for Tito to fly to the Mir space station, said Wednesday that Tito will now start training at the Star City space facility.

The blastoff is scheduled for mid-2001, according to MirCorp.

Tito, 59, has agreed to pay approximately $20 million to fly to Mir with two cosmonauts for a brief visit, MirCorp has said.
