Actor Killed by Tree

Actor Anatoly Romashin, known for his portrayal of a number of characters both on screen and the stage, died Wednesday in a tragic accident at his dacha in Pushkino, northeast of Moscow. He was 69.

A tree the actor was sawing unexpectedly broke and fell on him in front of his 3-year-old son.

Romashin first became famous in Soviet times as a theater actor and later for the characters he portrayed on film. The role of Tsar Nicholas II in Elem Klimov?s "Agony," a 1975 film about Grigory Rasputin, was one of his most successful.

Most recently, Romashin performed opposite his actress wife, Yulia, at Moscow?s Luna Theater and taught at the Cinematography Institute.
