Games of Chance

No one likes to lose. But watching others bet their hard-earned savings away is always comforting. Mark Zakharov's production of Dostoevsky's novel "The Gambler" offers the chance to watch a wide range of people battling to come to terms with their betting disease. Show time is at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lenkom Theater, 6 Malaya Dmitrovka. Metro Pushkinskaya. Tel. 229-4473/92.

Breaking Boundaries

Although Romeo and Juliet died for their love hundreds of years ago, their mantle has been taken up by hundreds, even thousands of star-crossed young lovers - such as the pair at the center of Francois Ozon's "Les Amants Criminels." This dark, surrealistic tale looks into the lives of two teenagers caught up in an "illegal" sexual intrigue. "Les Amants Criminels" (Criminal Lovers) plays in French at 11 p.m. Tuesday at the Khudozhestvenny cinema at 14 Arbatskaya Ploshchad. Metro Arbatskaya. Tel. 291-5598.

Music of Kings

The Moskovskoye Deystvo Festival is bringing a European monarchist sound to town. Insula Magica (Novosibirsk) and Laudo (Sweden) will be performing the music of the courts of Peter I of Russia and Charles XII of Sweden - two young, energetic and reforming monarchs who waged a decades-long war around the start of the 18th century. The concert begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Russian Army House, 2 Suvorov Square. Metro Novoslobodskaya. Tel. 281-5550.
