WHAT IS TO BE DONE?

Bonny Scots

It doesn't matter whether you take the high or the low road, if you love all things Scottish, the Central House of Artists is where you should be Tuesday evening. Part of the city's Scottish Culture Festival, the Dumbarton Pipe Band and the Hebridians will provide an introduction to Celtic music. The pipes start playing at 6 p.m. at the Central House of Artists, 10 Krymsky Val. Metro Oktyabrskaya. Tel. 230-1782, 238-1955.

Crossed Cultures

If you're reading this newspaper, you can probably relate to the problems that arise when different cultures interact. So you may well enjoy Damien O'Donnell's film "East Is East," a madcap but moving comedy based on an award-winning stage play by Ayub Khan-Din about the trials and tribulations of a mixed English-Pakistani family in 1970s Britain. The movie is showing (in English with Russian subtitles) at 5 p.m. Tuesday at MDM-Kino, 28 Komsomolsky Prospekt. Metro Fruzenskaya. Tel. 245-8438.

Pining for Stein?

If you liked German director Peter Stein's recent staging of "Hamlet" you will be interested in his latest production, "Man Season." Written by Natalya Demchik, this dance comedy features Lyubov Polishchuk and Alexander Domogarov. If you've never seen the inimitable Stein, this play is a perfect introduction. The curtain rises at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Mayakovsky Theater, 19 Bolshaya Nikitskaya. Metro Arbatskaya. Tel. 290-4658.
