St. Pete Airport to Get Terminal

ST. PETERSBURG -- Construction on a new $20 million freight terminal near St. Petersburg's Pulkovo Airport will begin by October, Ulrich R?ger, regional director for Lufthansa in Russia and the CIS, said last week at a news conference.

The German company is one of the key participants in the project.

With the first stage of the project's development, the terminal will have a freight capacity of about 35,000 tons per year and upon its completion it will be able to handle 100,000 tons yearly.

The present volume of freight shipped from Pulkovo's cargo warehouse is 64,700 tons per year.

R?ger said the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Pulkovo, Lufthansa and private local investors will fund the first phase of the project, which will cost from $8 million to $9 million.
