Euronext Moved Up

BRUSSELS, Belgium -- The merger of the Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris bourses to create the Euronext single stock exchange will be completed by early October, Euronext President Jean-Francois Theodore said Monday.

He told a news conference Euronext planned its own initial public offering before the end of the year.

It had previously been expected that Euronext, which was announced in mid-March, would not be up and running until the first quarter of 2001.

Theodore said Euronext was examining the possibility of setting up a single global order book project in the third quarter of this year.

"We are working on the idea of having a worldwide-class equities single order book passing from one time-zone to another," he said.
