35 Hurt in Train Crash

KIEV -- Thirty-five people were injured Monday when a train traveling between Moscow and the Ukrainian port of Odessa was derailed, the Emergency Situations Ministry said.

The train's locomotive and four of its cars went off their tracks due to unspecified damage to the rails in the area of Vinnytsia, a town in central Ukraine, it said.

Thirty of the injured in the early morning accident were treated on the spot and five were hospitalized, including one who has undergone a hip operation, the report added.

The remaining 175 passengers were taken to a nearby station, where they were to await a train to continue their journey.
