Portuguese to Return?

ERMELO, Netherlands -- Portuguese midfielder Paulo Sousa and striker Ricardo Sa Pinto are over the injuries that kept them out of Monday's victory over England and are expected to be fit for Saturday's match against Romania.

"They've totally recovered," said assistant coach Adelino Teixeira on Wednesday.

Both players took part in full training Wednesday evening, which finished in an 11-a-side game in which the squad put on a display of dexterous footwork for hundreds of cheering fans.

Sousa has been carrying a lingering thigh strain and Sa Pinto twisted a knee in training last week. After the much-lauded performance against England, it's not clear coach Humberto Coelho will change his starting line-up to make room for Sousa and Sa Pinto.

He may chose to maintain Jose Luis Vidigal in a defense midfield position keeping Sousa on the bench, ready to come on if his exacting passing is need to open up the game.

Benfica youngster Nuno Gomes, who scored the winning goal against England on Monday, may be preferred to Sa Pinto.
