Moldova 'Pays' Gas Co.

MOSCOW -- Natural gas monopoly Gazprom received $121.2 million on Friday in promissory notes from the former Soviet republic of Moldova as part of its debt payment, Gazprom said in a statement.

The notes, to be repaid quarterly between 2000 and 2006, can be used as payment between Russian enterprises and their Moldovan counterparts with no limitations. The tiny country owes Russia $861 million for gas.
