Lithuania Aid Ends

WASHINGTON -- The United States plans to close down its foreign aid mission in Lithuania, one of several former communist countries that officials say have completed a successful transition period.

Missions in seven others have already closed down, including Latvia and Estonia, said Donald Pressley, assistant administrator for Europe and Eurasia of the Agency for International Development.

The mission in Poland will be closed in July. That will be the last of the former communist countries in the region to be taken off the aid list.
