Georgia Troop Pullout

MOSCOW -- Russia will begin withdrawing troops and military hardware from bases in Georgia this summer, but the two former Soviet republics still disagree on details of the pullback, officials said Monday.

Deputy Prime Minister Ilya Klebanov said after returning from Georgia that Russia would start withdrawing weapons from its bases in Vaziani and Gudauta on Aug. 1, Russian news reports said.

Under a bilateral agreement signed in Istanbul last year, Russia must close the two bases by July 1, 2001.
