Belarus Fires Coach

MINSK, Belarus -- Belarus coach Sergei Borovsky has been sacked following a string of poor results, Belarus soccer federation officials said Wednesday.

On Sunday, Belarus suffered its third consecutive defeat in international friendlies, losing 2-0 to Estonia. It has also lost to Bulgaria (4-1) and Andorra (2-0) in the last two months.

"In our country, just like in the old days, one must produce immediate results no matter what level of games you play, so our sports officials can report those results to their superiors," former Soviet international Borovsky said Wednesday.

"My problem was that I didn't produce those results in friendly matches. I just wasn't given enough time to do it."

It was Borovsky's second stint with the national team, but this time he lasted less than six months. He will be replaced temporarily by his assistant, Yury Pudyshev.
