Baltics on Crimes

TALLINN, Estonia -- Baltic politicians urged the West on Wednesday to set up a tribunal to punish the perpetrators of crimes committed in the name of communism, saying they must be seen in the same light as Nazi war crimes.

"Let us ask ourselves, and the whole world: What conclusions should we draw to prevent those horrors from happening again?" said Estonian President Lennart Meri in a statement delivered at a "Crimes of Communism" conference.

Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania were forcefully incorporated into the Soviet Union in 1940.
