AT&T Raises Rates

NEW YORK -- AT&T Corp. on Friday increased its basic rates by 13 to 40 percent and introduced new discount plans two weeks after it revoked a price hike that angered federal regulators and consumer groups.

The new prices, effective July 1, mark the first time since 1996 that AT&T's basic rates will rise for customers who are not already on a discounted calling plan and who do not select one of the new pricing plans.
