Afghanistan Appeal

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan -- Four Central Asian leaders on Wednesday appealed to international organizations to solve the conflict in Afghanistan, saying their countries could not cope with problems spilling over from the war-torn nation.

"We cannot watch calmly the creeping expansion of international religious terrorism and extremism, but we are unable to oppose it," the presidents of Tajikistan, Kazakstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan wrote in their appeal to the UN Security Council, the Organization of the Islamic Conference and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

The leaders issued the appeal during a meeting of the four-nation Central Asian Economic Union.
