TV Center Tender Off

MOSCOW -- The Press Ministry said it will comply with a Moscow court verdict and suspend a tender it had earlier announced to pit the city government's TV Center against other television companies interested in its broadcast license.

Press Minister Mikhail Lesin told Ekho Moskvy radio station Monday the tender will be put on hold until an Moscow arbitration court delivers its verdict on whether the ministry had the right to issue a second warning to TV Center.

This second warning, issued over what Lesin believes to be a biased report by TV Center during the State Duma electoral campaign last December, enables the Press Ministry to hold a tender rather than automatically extend TV Center's broadcast license.

A court is set to hear TV Center's protest against the second warning on June 16. The broadcast license tender was to have taken place Wednesday.
