MOSCOW -- The crew of the Mir space station ventured outside Friday for a five-hour spacewalk to test a cosmic version of super glue designed to seal cracks in the aging craft.
Sergei Zalyotin and Alexander Kaleri checked the aging station's outer surface, inspected a broken solar panel and applied the glue to a special panel imitating the Mir's hull.
Once back inside, the crew is to study the panel to judge the quality of the glue, which forms a protective layer, said Mission Control spokesman Valery Lyndin.
