South Ossetia Deaths

TBILISI, Georgia -- Five Georgians were killed when unidentified attackers fired on their car in South Ossetia on Saturday, the anniversary of bloody fighting in the breakaway region, a Georgian Interior Ministry spokesman said.

The attack took place in a part of South Ossetia populated mainly by ethnic Georgians and controlled by Georgia's central authorities.

The attack occurred as South Ossetians were marking the eighth anniversary of the bloodiest day in their 1991-92 fight for independence.
