Kvashin Meets NATO

MOSCOW -- Chief of the General Staff Anatoly Kvashnin flew to Brussels on Wednesday to take part in a meeting with NATO officials in an apparent gesture of reconciliation after the protracted period of animosity that followed NATO's bombing campaign in Yugoslavia.

Among the topics to be discussed, Kvashnin noted the peacekeeping operation in Kosovo and Russia's new military doctrine, Interfax reported.

The agency cited Kvashnin as saying that Russia and NATO assess the situation in Kosovo very differently and that NATO peacekeepers have not been "taking into consideration the interests of Serbs and other non-Albanian ethnic groups living in Kosovo."
