Copper Output Up

YEKATERINBURG, Ural Mountains -- The nation's second- largest copper producer, Uralelectromed, raised its refined copper output to 67,362 metric tons in the first quarter of 2000 from 56,691 tons in the same period last year, the plant's press secretary said Wednesday.

Anatoly Zyryanov said that Uralelectromed exported 22,605 tons of refined copper in the first three months of this year, up from 17,711 tons in the corresponding period of 1999.

At the end of April Uralelectromed said it planned to cut exports this year by more than half due to increased demand on the domestic market.
