Chechnya Violence

MOSCOW -- A remotely controlled incendiary device blew up a passenger bus southeast of the Chechen capital, killing three civilians and injuring 18 near Dzhaglarbi, news agencies reported, citing the military command.

Another explosion Friday killed a journalist, Alexander Yefremov of the Tyumen newspaper Nashe Vremya, and two police officers who were riding in a UAZ jeep through a Russian-controlled region near Grozny, the military said, according to Interfax.

Meanwhile, the death toll in Thursday's ambush of a military convoy in Ingushetia rose to 19 when one of the wounded soldiers died in the hospital.

In apparent response, the military claimed to have staged two attacks Friday that left about 50 rebels dead, Interfax said.
