Angolans Release Crew

LISBON, Portugal -- Angola's UNITA rebels say they have released five Russian crew members held captive for about a year and turned them over to authorities in neighboring Zambia.

The crew was delivered Monday in Hangana, according to a UNITA statement faxed Tuesday to The Associated Press in Lisbon.

The five pilots were imprisoned when their An-26 and An-12 planes were shot down May 12 and June 30 in the northeastern Lunda Norte province.

The UNITA statement said Zambia had assured the rebels that the crew would be taken to Russia.
