Airbus A3XX on Hold

PARIS -- European aircraft consortium Airbus Industrie said Friday it had postponed a May 26 supervisory board meeting, which had been expected to officially approve the group's A3XX superjumbo project.

It was not immediately clear why the much-anticipated meeting had been delayed, but a story in the Friday edition of the Financial Times said that Airbus partners believed it was still too early to move to the commercial launch stage because of a lack of demand for the 555-seat double-decker plane.

"It's a fact that the May 26 meeting has been postponed," said an Airbus spokeswoman. "I haven't heard of the reason for the delay but I know another meeting date is being considered."
