Powers Honored

SACRAMENTO, California -- Francis Gary Powers, the U2 spy plane pilot whose downing over the Soviet Union in 1960 became a pivotal event of the Cold War, will be posthumously awarded military honors Monday, exactly 40 years after his capture.

Officials said Powers' family would be taken to an Air Force base north of Sacramento and presented with the Prisoner-of-War Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the National Defense Service Medal in recognition of his service to the country.
