Domestic Inaugural

MOSCOW -- Foreign leaders won't be invited to attend the inauguration of President-elect Vladimir Putin next month because it is a domestic event, an official said Thursday.

Putin is scheduled to be inaugurated May 7. While some countries invite foreign leaders to such events, Russian officials have ruled out doing the same, Sergei Prikhodko, deputy chief of the presidential staff, told Interfax. Foreign ambassadors based in Moscow will be invited to attend the event, he said.
