If Irina Papernaya of Propaganda and Chinese Pilot fame is the mother of the Moscow club scene, then the father is certainly Valery Novak. With involvement in two White Cockroach clubs, Bedniye Lyudi and Four Rooms under his belt, Novak has just opened his latest venture, the instantly-popular Mix, which aims for a slightly more sophisticated feel than Novak's fans may be accustomed to: a place where people can meet friends, listen to jazz-influenced house that doesn't make conversation impossible or have a (very inexpensive) meal, cup of coffee or a few drinks. At Mix, giant television monitors built into the walls everywhere - even in the bathrooms - air nonstop commercials from all over the world all day and night. On weekends, Mix hosts live shows or Western DJs. If you go, don't pass up Lucifer, the house dessert of pancakes stuffed with homemade cheese under orange sauce (120 rubles) - it's devilishly good.
