Cargo Arrives at Mir

MOSCOW -- A Progress cargo module carrying oxygen, fuel and other supplies successfully docked with the Mir space station Friday, said a Mission Control spokeswoman.

The docking was performed in automatic mode and went without a hitch, said spokeswoman Vera Medvedkova.

Progress was also carrying water, food and spare parts for maintenance.

The 14-year-old Mir was recently remanned by cosmonauts Alexander Kaleri and Sergei Zalyotin after the space station orbited empty for eight months. The two were expected to stay on Mir until June, but Mission Control said their stay could be extended until August.
