Armenian Neutrality

YEREVAN, Armenia -- Armenia will seek to guarantee its national security by not choosing sides in conflicts between neighboring states and great powers, Armenia's foreign minister said Tuesday in a policy statement.

Vardan Osaknyan said Armenia will seek to retain good relations with all nations with interests in the Caucasus, including countries hostile to each other such as Iran and the United States.

Armenia relies on U.S. aid and income from a large Armenian diaspora in America, but the country's security against historical enemy Turkey is guaranteed by Russian army bases located on its territory.
