Headless Horror
If you liked "A Nightmare Before Christmas" and "Edward Scissorhands," get down to the American House of Cinema Thursday for Tim Burton's latest offering of the macabre "Sleepy Hollow." The story of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman, long a Halloween favorite among American children, stars Johnny Depp as Crane and promises a bit more gore than fans of either Burton or the tale might expect. At 7 p.m. at the American House of Cinema, located at 2 Berezhkovskaya Naberezhnaya. Metro Kievskaya. Tel. 941-8747.
Beyond the Secular
If you prefer something a little more serene, you've got until Friday to take in an exhibit of photographs from Russia's famous Valaam Monastery. The exhibit, which includes photos from the turn of the century as well as contemporary shots, is at the Photo Center, 8 Gogolevsky Bulvar. Open Monday through Friday from noon to 6 p.m. Metro Arbatskaya. Tel. 291-8602 or 290-6996.
Riding, Riding, Riding
If you're in the mood for neither severed heads nor monastic vistas, take a spin with Nikolai Kolyada's play about a lonely meter-reader who gets involved with two strange, equally lonely women. "We are Riding, Riding, Riding" (My Yedem, Yedem, Yedem) plays at 7 p.m. at the Sovremmenik Theater, located at 19A Chistoprudniy Bulvar. Metro Chistiye Prudy. Tel. 921-6473.
