Tsymbalar Goes Loko

MOSCOW -- Former Spartak Moscow captain Ilya Tsymbalar has joined city rival Lokomotiv.

"We signed him on a one-year contract and now just need to resolve a transfer sum between the two clubs," Lokomotiv coach Yury Syomin said Thursday.

Tsymbalar was released by Spartak last October after the gifted playmaker fell out of favor with team boss Oleg Romantsev. The two men have since patched up their differences.

Lokomotiv, beaten by champion Spartak in last season's title chase, aims for its first premier league championship when the new Russian season kicks off March 25.
