Software Merger

NEW YORK -- Software maker i2 Technologies Inc. plans to buy Aspect Development Inc., a rival maker of business-to-business e-commerce software, in a deal worth $9.3 billion, the largest merger ever in the software industry, the companies said Monday.

Dallas-based i2 will exchange 0.55 shares for each Aspect share, giving effect to Aspect's two-for-one stock split. This represents a 35-percent premium to Aspect's closing stock price Friday, the companies said. Aspect shares were expected to start trading on a post-split basis Monday morning.

Aspect shares closed at a pre-split 170 Friday, while i2 finished at 208.
