Ruble Edges Higher

MOSCOW -- The ruble edged up 3 kopeks Wednesday stretching its gains into a third week despite the Central Bank's dollar purchases, dealers said.

The ruble's weighted average for today settlement firmed to 28.4562 per dollar in the morning session of eight exchanges after 28.4948 per dollar Tuesday.

Based on the results of the unified trading session, the Central Bank set its official next day rate at 28.46 per dollar.

The Central Bank apparently bought over $15 million for its reserves at the afternoon session, dealers said.
