MOSCOW -- Acting President Vladimir Putin won the backing Sunday of some prominent market reform advocates for presidential elections in two weeks that he is expected to win.

Former Prime Minister Sergei Kiriyenko, a leader of the Union of Right Forces party, announced on ORT television Sunday that two branches of the party would support Putin's presidential bid.

Kiriyenko gave no specific reason for the decision. He said he was supporting Putin "not as a person but as an institution of power."
