Caspian Pipeline Talks

ANKARA, Turkey -- Turkish President Suleyman Demirel left for Turkmenistan on Tuesday for talks on a planned pipeline across the Caspian to export gas to Turkey and European markets.

Turkmenistan agreed earlier this month to allow Azerbaijan to also use the proposed pipeline, which was originally intended for Turkmen gas only.

The pipeline, expected to carry 30 billion cubic meters of gas a year, is to pass through Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey to reach the Mediterranean Sea.
